The affirmative imperative of VOS has fewer irregularities than the imperative of TÚ. Let us remember that the imperative, in the second person singular, has a different form for the affirmative and another for the negative.
Afirmativo VOS
Infinitive Verb: tener – R= tene, + accent mark= tené
VOS Tené paciencia
Poner= poné
Decir= decí
Pedir= pedí
There are two verbs where we can´t do this
IR= andá
Estar= estate
Andá al supermercado, necesitamos leche.
Estate tranquilo, todo va a salir bien.
Remember that the reflexive pronouns and direct and indirect object pronouns go at the end of the verb.
-¡Despertate!
– Decime la verdad.
-Pedile dinero a tus padres.
-El libro ponelo en la biblioteca.
The Negative Imperative of VOS is equal to the negative of “tú”.
It is important that you remember the rules of the “I” in the present tense, because if the verb is irregular in the first person of the present it will transfer its irregularity to the Negative Imperative of “You”.
Ex: poner= yo pongo.
So if the verb ends in AR, we change the O for ES, and if it ends ER-IR we change the O for AS.
AR=o—–ES
ER-IR= o—–AS
Probar = yo pruebo = No PruebES
Tener= yo tengo = No TengAS
Pedir = yo pido = No PidAS
We have some verbs with which we cannot do this, they are the verbs that in the present tense that do not end in O in the first person: ser, estar, dar, saber, ir
SER= No seas
Estar = No estés
Dar= No des
Saber= No sepas
Ir= No vayas
Remember that the reflexive pronouns and direct and indirect object pronouns go before the verb.
¡No te vayas!
No te levantes tan temprano. (But: levantate más temprano)
No lo olvides.
No te lo comas, lo quiero comer mañana.
